A new chapter for VetThing in the UK

Dr Ben Hanning

Ben Hanning - VetThing - Vetopia UK

Across Europe, Vetopia has grown into a network of more than 200 practices, built around a simple idea. When veterinary professionals are properly supported, they can deliver better care.

Now we’re bringing that same thinking to the UK with VetThing – a new UK veterinary group that’s part of the wider Vetopia community.

Leadership grounded in experience

Ben Hanning is leading VetThing in the UK.

As a vet by training, he understands the reality of practice life. He’s worked in clinical roles, and spent the last decade building and leading multi-site organisations across the veterinary and dental sectors.

As Ben puts it:

“Veterinary professionals are under more pressure than ever, and I’ve lived that reality. This is about creating a better way forward. One where vets can focus on delivering exceptional care, with the support, resources and ownership they deserve.”

Built around ownership and shared purpose

What sets Vetopia apart is its unique ownership model. More than half of its shares are owned by employees, an approach rarely seen in the sector.

That means vets and clinic leaders can become shareholders and directly benefit from the success they help to create.

Peter Thomsen, Group CEO at Vetopia, added: Vetopia’s success across Europe shows that veterinary excellence thrives when clinicians lead the way. Our country-led model combines local decision-making with the benefits of being part of a larger network, giving practices the freedom to deliver care their way while accessing shared expertise, investment and resources.

Peter said

"We are delighted to have an experienced and values-driven leader like Ben guiding our UK launch, which marks an exciting milestone in Vetopia’s expansion.”

Be part of something bigger

Across Europe, Vetopia has shown what’s possible when clinicians are trusted to lead the way. That same approach is what we’re building here in the UK. We’re growing carefully, with the right practices, who share the same beliefs. And we’re building something that works for the people behind those practices, and for the pets they care for.

    Celebrating International Women’s Day

Behind every veterinary role is a story that often starts the same way. A love of animals. A desire to help. A sense that this is where you’re meant to be. This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the women who turned that love into a calling, and the girls who dream of following in their footsteps.
