Senior Marketing Manager

UK-based - Full-time hybrid role with regular travel to clinics and events
Market competitive salary
25 days holiday per annum

Apply by 28th October 2026

VetThing is one of the fastest-growing veterinary group, built on a simple idea: when vets recognise something in each other’s work that only the profession truly understands — “it’s a vet thing.” Launched in November 2025 under the leadership of vet-turned-founder Ben Hanning MRCVS, VetThing is majority-owned by the veterinary professionals who work within it, and it is scaling fast, now home to 13 clinics and counting. We’re backed by Vetopia, the third-largest pan-European veterinary group, spanning eight country-specific brands and 220+ clinics across nine countries. That means UK-level speed and start-up energy, with established European infrastructure behind it.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Marketing Manager to take ownership of the VetThing brand and lead our marketing and communications through the next stage of our growth. This is a senior, strategic appointment for a qualified marketer with the experience and gravitas to set direction, influence senior stakeholders and represent VetThing to the veterinary profession.

You will be accountable for brand, internal communications, digital, PR, national campaigns and events. You will direct our full-service and PR agencies and manage the marketing budget. Our model is practice-led: clinics retain their own identity and client-facing marketing, so you will lead through influence and best practice rather than mandate. You will work closely with clinical teams, practice leaders, Commercial, M&A and colleagues across the Vetopia group in Europe.

As we scale, we need a steady pair of hands. You will think strategically and build the marketing function for the long term, while being equally prepared to roll up your sleeves to write, create and deliver. As the function develops, you will build and lead the marketing team.

Key responsibilities

  • Brand leadership. Own the VetThing brand, including positioning, proposition, tone of voice, visual identity and guidelines. Ensure all communications, internal and external, are consistent, credible and on-brand, and define how the VetThing brand sits alongside individual clinic brands.
  • Marketing strategy. Develop and deliver an annual marketing and communications strategy aligned to business and group priorities, acting as the senior marketing adviser to the leadership team.
  • Internal communications. Lead communications and engagement across the central team and clinic teams, supporting the communication of group initiatives and change.
  • Digital. Own the corporate website and social channels, with LinkedIn central to our B2B presence. Set digital strategy and KPIs, and provide clinics with best-practice guidance for their own channels.
  • PR and corporate communications. Direct our PR agency, manage media relationships, lead announcements and oversee issues and reputation management, in line with RCVS guidance and CMA requirements.
  • National campaigns. Lead national campaigns from strategy to evaluation, designed for clinics to adopt and adapt locally, working with clinics, Commercial and suppliers.
  • Clinic marketing best practice. Lead best practice in client-facing marketing across small animal, farm, equine and referral, providing toolkits, training and advice that enable clinics to deliver independently.
  • M&A and growth. Position VetThing as the partner of choice for practice owners, support the deal team with materials and messaging, and lead communications when new clinics join.
  • Events. Own VetThing's presence at major congresses and hosted events, including strategy, budget, suppliers and logistics, with clear measures of return.
  • Agency management and content. Brief, challenge and manage the performance of our full-service and PR agencies, while creating high-quality content directly.
  • Budget and team leadership. Manage the marketing budget and report on performance and return on investment. Build, lead and develop the marketing team as the function grows.
  • Group collaboration. Work with Vetopia marketing and communications colleagues across Europe to align on brand and share best practice.

Person specification

Essential:
  • A recognised marketing qualification (for example CIM Diploma, Chartered Marketer status or a marketing degree)
  • Substantial experience at senior marketing manager level or above, with a proven track record of owning and developing a brand across multiple channels
  • Strong B2B marketing experience, with a sound understanding of B2C marketing and how it drives client acquisition and retention
  • Demonstrable breadth across brand, internal communications, digital, PR and events
  • Proven ability to operate at both a strategic and a hands-on level, setting direction while delivering work directly
  • Experience leading national or multi-site campaigns through collaboration and influence
  • Experience directing and challenging full-service and PR agencies at a senior level
  • Excellent written communication, with the ability to produce high-quality content
  • Experience managing a significant marketing budget and leading a team
  • The gravitas and credibility to influence senior leaders, clinicians and group stakeholders
  • Able to travel to clinics and events
Desirable:
  • Marketing experience in the veterinary or wider healthcare sector, ideally small animal, with exposure to farm, equine and referral
  • Experience in a scaling, multi-site or acquisitive business, including M&A communications
  • Experience working within a European or international group structure
  • Knowledge of RCVS and CMA requirements relevant to veterinary marketing
  • Experience of issues and crisis communications
